New York Cannot Be Allowed to Defy America’s Immigration Laws
America cannot remain a sovereign nation if major cities are allowed to pick and choose which federal laws they will obey. Immigration enforcement is not a political suggestion. It is a core responsibility of the federal government.
That is why the growing clash over ICE operations in New York matters far beyond one city. When local leaders such as Zohran Mamdani promise to resist deportation efforts, they are not merely disagreeing with Washington. They are challenging the basic principle that the nation’s laws must apply everywhere.
President Trump’s position is clear: no mayor, activist, or city official has the authority to shield people from lawful federal enforcement. A country that cannot remove those who entered or remained illegally has surrendered control over its own borders.
Supporters of sanctuary policies often describe their position as compassion. But compassion without order becomes chaos. American families already face pressure from overcrowded schools, strained hospitals, rising housing costs, and public safety concerns. Citizens and legal immigrants should not be forced to carry the burden of policies that reward lawbreaking and weaken national security.
