Trump Brokers Ceasefire Between Israel And Iran, Demands Bombing Stops

President Donald Trump said Monday night that he expects the new ceasefire he brokered between Israel and Iran will bring an end to all military hostilities between the two nations.

“I think the ceasefire is unlimited. It is going to go forever,” Trump said in a phone interview, NBC News reported.

Asked if the war was now completely over, Trump replied, “Yes. I do not believe they will ever be shooting at each other again.”

Trump announced on Truth Social that both countries had agreed to a ceasefire, which would roll out in stages over the next 24 hours. A diplomat briefed on the talks told NBC News that Trump and Vice President JD Vance secured the deal with key assistance from top Qatari leaders, who presented the ceasefire proposal to Iran.

According to a senior White House official, Trump told Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, “No more war, no more fighting. The Iranians have been significantly weakened.”

As Trump spoke to Israeli leaders from the Oval Office, his national security team was relaying messages to Iranian officials through intermediaries, the senior official said.

The official added that after Trump convinced Netanyahu to agree to the deal, Vance, Secretary of State Marco Rubio, and special envoy Steve Witkoff delivered the U.S. position to the Iranians, “both directly and indirectly,” signaling that the United States wanted the ceasefire to go forward.

The phased-in approach — in which Iran would stop firing for 12 hours first, followed by Israel halting fire for another 12 hours — was Trump’s idea to ease Israeli concerns that Iran might not uphold the agreement, the official said.

Another source familiar with the foreign outreach told NBC News that Trump personally called Qatar’s emir, Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani, earlier Monday and said he could get Israel to agree to a ceasefire if Qatar could persuade Iran to come on board. The source said Qatar’s prime minister, Mohammed bin Abdulrahman bin Jassim Al Thani, then coordinated efforts with Vance and spoke directly to the Iranians.

Israel confirmed its participation in the bilateral ceasefire, Netanyahu’s office said early Tuesday, just hours after Iranian media claimed Iran had “imposed a ceasefire” on Israel.

Iran reportedly launched its final missile barrage as the ceasefire took effect, according to Iranian state media.

“Ceasefire begins following four waves of Iranian attacks on Israeli-occupied territories,” Iran’s Press TV posted on X.

Iranian health officials recently said Israeli strikes have killed at least 400 people in Iran and injured 3,000. Iranian retaliatory strikes have killed at least 24 people in Israel.

“A lot of people were dying, and it was only going to get worse,” Trump told NBC News Monday night.

The United States struck Iran over the weekend, targeting three nuclear facilities in an attack that involved more than 125 U.S. military aircraft.

After defying Trump’s warning that any retaliation against U.S. assets “will be met with even greater force,” Iran launched an attack on a base in Qatar that houses thousands of U.S. troops. Qatar later confirmed there were no casualties.

Trump dismissed Iran’s retaliatory attack as a “weak response” in a Truth Social post Monday afternoon, writing that Tehran could now “proceed to Peace” and that he would “enthusiastically encourage Israel to do the same.”

When Trump later announced that a ceasefire deal had been reached, he suggested naming the conflict “THE 12 DAY WAR.”

The senior White House official said the name was Trump’s idea.

Iran’s supreme leader is “cowering” deep beneath the surface of his country, preparing for his inevitable death and planning to select a successor, according to official insiders.

Two top Iranian officials informed The Atlantic that Ayatollah Ali Khamenei’s days are short, and they may not wait for him to die of natural causes before removing him.

“Everybody knows Khamenei’s days are numbered,” claimed one official. “Even if he stays in office, he won’t have actual power.”
